The HIP and FIT Competition and Dance Party started as a small party just for the Philly girls. Soon it became an East Coast Event and now with EQUALITY FORUM, the largest Gay and Lesbian week in America, as the presenter it is going NATIONAL and we're now looking for
THE HOTTEST LESBIAN IN THE USA!
Hip and Fit came about in early March 2006 when Denise M. Cohen, GM of Lesbian Nightclubs in Philadelphia for over 18 years and creator of DENCO EVENTS, was working out with one of Philadelphia's top personal trainers Pondeli owner of Pondeli's Lift For Life Gym.
Pondeli is always looking for ways to educate people on the benefits of working-out and wanted to do some sort of contest...well you didn't have to hit Denise on the head with a dumbbell because she is always looking for a great reason to throw a party. Just like that, with a simple conversation over the weight bench...lightning struck and the concept of the Search for The Hottest Lesbian in Philadelphia
started to take shape.
Over the next few weeks Denise decided this had to be bigger and with some of her contacts on the East Coast, it was now the Search for The Hottest Lesbian on the EAST COAST! With the help of artist and web designer, Jaime Morales, a website and unique artwork was created and the word began to spread.
The first event was held on a hot August night in 2006 and had over 500 people in attendance with contestants from Miami, New York and Washington D.C. It was wild...hosted by radio personality Casey from Wired 96.5 with the HIP portion being judged by numerous local sponsors like Nick DiBello, TAB Energy Drink, Christian Roberts Salon and Spa and a few more were our "fashion police" and of course the FIT portion was judged by Pondeli and Marion who was 1999 Ms. Philippines.
With the success of the EAST COAST event Denise spoke to Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director of EQUALITY FORUM and as a Board member she also pitched the idea to the entire board about making the event a part of GIRL FEVER their Premiere Women's Event held in Philadelphia in May. The 1st National Contest was AMAZING with a crowd of a 1,000 people! The contestants and the crowd had a Blast, hosted by RUTHIE from MTV's Real World with contestants from MI, CA, MA, VA, PA, NY, MD and TX. The Competition was so close within points with the winners of the top 3 spots going to CA, NY and PA ... The winner walked away with a Cruise from OLIVIA Cruises.
